The NC Safe Routes to School Conference will bring together a variety of participants from around the state, including:

  • Transportation and planning professionals
  • Elected officials
  • Law enforcement officers
  • Elementary and middle school administrators, teachers, nurses and other staff
  • Parents
  • Walking and bicycling advocates
  • Safety advocates
  • Regional Active Routes to School Coordinators

The North Carolina Safe Routes to School Conference is sponsored by the Safe Routes to School Program at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Helping meet the goals set forth in the Strategic Highway Safety Plan, Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and NC Vision Zero, NCDOT’s Safe Routes to School Program is working to make walking and bicycling to school safer and to encourage more students and families to use these modes where possible. Through a joint partnership between the NCDOT Safe Routes to School program and the NC Division of Public Health, there are ten Active Routes to School Regional Coordinators helping to implement Safe Routes to School strategies in communities across North Carolina.
